Ice & Blakes Score Epic Blacks During Barry White Concert
I don’t need to elaborate too much on the fatal Great White attack today in Solana Beach, I am sure you all have heard about it or have read the news. If not, these are the two best articles I have seen about the incident.

On a related note, Blakes and I were in the water this morning at Blacks well before 7am scoring chest to head high waves with a very limited crowd factor. It was probably the best conditions I have had in a month or so, and we both surfed great sessions. I am looking forward to surfing there again tomorrow.
Blacks Beach, for those of you don’t know, is about 3 miles from the shark attack location and sits on top of one of the deepest underwater trenches in the east pacific. The waves are good at blacks due to the underwater canyon there. It is well known within the surf and shark communities that Great White Sharks breed in the deep waters off of Blacks Beach. Furthermore, It should be noted that the last fatal shark attack ON A SURFER was in 1959 in La Jolla just to the south of blacks.
Hate to point this out but the ‘59 attack by a great white off La Jolla Cove was eventually determined to be a hoax by a couple of guys trying to get some life insurance money and then retire to Baja.
A few years back a friend and me were surfin south blacks on a nice glassy and clear water day. waves head high and hollow..best day i have ever had !!! i was paddling out and all of a sudden there were hundreads of fish jumping all aroud me..as i was going over a wave on the way out my friend said he saw the biggest shark swim right under me …since the water was crystal clear that day. ..as i was sittin on my board i looked for my friend ..he was waving me to come in..caught the next wave a nice hollow right..when i got to him he told me the story..i guess that explains the fish jumping he said he rode his wave till his board stopped in the sand in ankle deep water…no more surfin that day ….but blacks i think has the best waves around !!! “blacks beach everyone knows, theres alot of crazy people without any clothes” hahaha
